This beautifully embroidered piece is actually made up of two panels that have been hand tacked together down the centre. Newly created in the traditional style, pieces such as these are worn by the local Miao women as a part of a ceremonial skirt or dress.

Hand embroidered and stitched. Cotton thread on black velvet backing. Cotton braid edging. Satin stitch. Not edged along top.

These vibrant panels depict the celebration of all living creatures as equals – men, women, animals and insects along with mythical creatures.
